This is an entrepreneurial story that would give hope and confidence to any Indian who has a positive attitude and remains as busy as a bee in his chosen profession. Jagjit, an India-Pakistan refugee, who lost everything when he came to India, was wondering where to start- either to eat or look for some shelter somewhere. He mustered his courage and started with whatever came in his way. Eventually he was able to save one day- Rs 1000 (USD 20) and started with 5 bee colonies.
Today, this company- Kashmir Apiaries- is one of the world’s busiest migratory bee-keeping companies. Their colonies move from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, according to the flower seasons to produce 10,000+ tonnes of organic honey every year.
When Jagjit started, he had tremendous knowledge of bee-keeping but had to learn how to sell his first 50 kg. Many times, he was taken advantage of his simplicity and honey, yet he persisted to exist. Today, his honey sells under 4 different brands in over 50+ countries.
Not only he has improved his own life, but has enabled over 20000 families to earn their meal for a day. A story which started with only 5 bee colonies has now installed Asia’s largest honey processing plant, near Ludhiana, with a capacity of 20,000 MT, and now exports to Europe, UK, Canada and Australia.
Its never- when everything is lot, and its never when you get everything!

Indians have become entrepreneurs by tutoring students in the USA through “outsourcing” which becomes gradually very difficult to stop now. In US, a private tutor charges $40-$50 per hour while Krishnan Ganesh, founder of TutorVista.com, charges $100 a month!
No one ever had a clue that a company- started from a simple Garage in Bangalore- April’06 with just 5 employees and 25 tutors will become global! Since then, this company has grown to touch 5000+ employees and reaches out to over 50,000 students across the world. The world is his market and the sky is the limit.
It works like this- In the dark of the night and wee hours of the morning while most of the Indian’s are sleeping, Ganesh and his teachers are spread across 1000+ locations in India- hooked on to their headphones, connected to their PCs and broadband, tutoring school and college students- 90% of whom are based out of US.
Ideas are aplenty! It is the execution of the idea which makes on successful. Ganesh has worked with several IT companies before he was struck with this idea. Having completed his MBA from IIM-Kolkata and Masters from University of Delhi, he was always on the lookout for something of his own. Now, he a renowned visiting faculty to several reputed institutes all over India. His connectivity with the academic world gives him the good faculty needed for the growth all over the world. He has been on NBC, ABC and BBC!
In his words, what makes a successful entrepreneur?
• He / she should have the passion for an idea. Unless you are passionate, you are not going to do it again.
• One needs to be stupid enough to believe that against all odds, the idea will work.
• One is not satisfied with what he/she has done in the past and has a deep desire to keep creating something new.
• One has the ability to erase the past and start from scratch

When he was born in a village, rarely people thought that he would even get to sit in an airplane. No one new that from remote part of Karnataka, Wings are being made inside the young boy's mind who will eventually disrupt the Indian Airspace- Air Deccan.
Capt.G.R Gopinath, founder of Air Deccan, is the father of low cost air travel in India. He was born in a teacher's family and was second in the family of 8 children. Though, his father was teacher himself, he did not allow his son to study in school and Gopinath eventually joined the school directly in 5th Standard. That's how his formal education began. Thereafter, he joined the defence school and qualified for one of the prestigious exams- National Defence Academy. Thereafter he served the army for 8 years and saw a silver lining in the cloud in 1995 when Indian government started reforms and promoted entrepreneurship.
This sparkled the entrepreneur and he identified a true potential in Helicopter Charter business in India. Along with an old Army fried, he decided to start a private sector commercial helicopter service in 1996. Understanding the needs of this segment, he started the first low cost, no frills airline. In 2003, Air Deccan revolutionized air travel in India- connecting flights to remote parts of the country. On its peak, Air Deccan operated 100+ flights a day, connecting over 50+ destinations in India. Eventually, Air Deccan was acquired by Kingfisher and gradually merged into the premium airlines.
He still remains an easily approachable person like he always was, relentlessly pursuing his dream of enabling every Indian to fly. He currently lives in Bangalore with his wife and two daughters, Pallavi and Krithika.
